Food Inc.

Food Inc. shall prove to be an interesting documentary. Our family has made the switch to buying our meat directly from a local farmer along with our milk. We learned about the importance of doing this through the website of Dr. Weston A. Price, DDS and you can visit his site here http://www.westonaprice.org/

We also make good use of our Farmer's Market in town from late spring through late fall.
Truth be told we are still struggling with what to do during the winter months for our fruits and veggies. We have cut back on how much we buy in the veggies area because of the quality of our meat we get. Since, the cows and chickens are pasture fed they contain much of the vegetable we need in the meat. Yes, sometimes you can taste the grass in the after taste (it is mild, and easy to get used to- my kids never seem to notice).

I personally do not recommend becoming a full out vegetarian, as there are many health issues that can come of that, unless you are diligent in making sure your body gets what it needs and actually eating it. A lot of vegetarians think soy is an acceptable substitute for protein and eat it all day long in the unfermented form. This type of soy consumption is very dangerous, as it breaks down into estrogen. As you can imagine this is not good for you as it is widely known that excess estrogen translates to increased cancer risk. http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2008/09/04/why-soy-is-not-the-health-food-you-think-it-is.aspx

This is another reason we limit our intake of processed foods, they all seem to contain soy in the unfermented version. Now, just think about all the poor little babies being subjected to soy formula and how dangerous to their health that is! Dr. Mercola offers superb adjustments to commercial formula, and some make your own formula recipes for your babies, if you must use formula in place of the superior wholesomeness of breast milk. http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2000/10/22/infant-formula-part-one.aspx

Anyway, I am sure you are more than capable to come up with an eating plan that is right for you and your family after you have done your research. Don't forget to check out the documentary when it comes to your local theater. For a sneak peek click on the title of this blog!

Ps. This is my 100th post! WooooHoooo!

  1. Congratulations on the 100th post. I really like Weston A Price Foundation's philosophy of eating and agree on the vegetarian diet and soy! We have been buying our meat, eggs, milk, maple syrup and honey from a farmer for several years and LOVE it! I hope you enjoy it too!
